Why did you choose to become a Hall Director?

When I started college I thought I was going to be a doctor, but my ambitions quickly changed once I got started in my program. What I really wanted out of a career was the opportunity not only to help others on a daily basis, but to help them see the potential in themselves. So many people just don’t see how amazing they really are! I found that in working with students outside of the classroom I was able to do that and so much more! I started out in ResLife as a Resident Assistant, and instantly loved the interactions and relationships that take place in the residence hall setting. I love getting to know students and what they are all about, and helping them make connections to be successful and happy not just in college but in life.

Why did you choose UNH?

I decided to work at UNH because of the focus on connecting with students that exists in UNH ResLife. I know that in this job I will have the opportunity to genuinely get to know the students in my hall, not just do the administrative tasks that come with running a building. I am so excited for that! The location was also a huge factor in my decision. I LOVE the outdoors, and like that UNH offers a lot in that regard while being close to Portland, Boston and my family in central Maine.

Advice for students...

Be open to new ideas and experiences, take pride in who you are and what you can accomplish, and don’t sell yourself short. Every person has unique abilities and talents- you just have to figure out how to best use them! Also, don’t forget that any situation is made in how you look at it- if you approach each day with a positive outlook, and keep your eye on the silver lining, your world will be a much happier place!
